Description
It shares E minor, triple meter and a length of about 30 seconds with No. 7, but with 266 notes it has around 30 percent more. This intermediate piece is No. 9 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, which sets dances handed down across Sweden for the piano; the authors of the tunes are not known.
The range runs from G2 in the bass to B5 at the top, reaching a little lower than No. 7. At nearly nine notes per second there is a lot of movement even in this short span, and the melody presses on without rest.
With so much movement, it matters not to lose the downbeat. Lower the playback speed and play while checking where the first beat of each bar falls, and the quick notes settle inside the beat. Follow the left hand's pulse through the hand colours, loop the whole piece with the A-B loop, and bring the speed back up gradually. Playing it after No. 7 shows clearly how density can differ within the same key. It fits on a 61-key keyboard. Finally, play it through at normal speed and check that the many notes do not upset the flow of the beat.
