Description
Nearly ten notes a second, kept up with hardly a pause, give this A-major dance the feel of a lively scene on the dance floor. It is No. 24 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, an intermediate piece with 704 notes in 73 seconds, more than Nos. 21 and 22 of the same length, from a collection that renders Swedish folk dances for piano with no composer named.
It is in A major and triple meter. With three sharps, it is the major key on the same tonic as the A-minor pieces common in the third part. The range runs from E2 to B5, and the melody keeps moving with hardly a pause.
Though rated intermediate, it tests both technical stamina and expressive control. Start with the playback speed well down and practise in short sections with the A-B loop. The three sharps, F, C and G, also need to settle into the hands. Check how the work is divided between the hands with the hand colours, finish it section by section and then join it up, and you will build the stamina to play it through. Its notes stay inside a 61-key compass.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
