Description
Over in about 30 seconds, this short dance in E minor and triple meter still holds 208 notes. It is an intermediate piece, No. 7 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, which arranges dance tunes handed down in Sweden for the piano; neither the makers nor the origins of individual tunes are recorded.
The range covers exactly three octaves, from B2 to B5, so both ends sit on B, the dominant of E minor. The bass does not go very deep, and melody and accompaniment sound fairly close together. At about seven notes per second, the energy of the dance is packed into a short time.
Because it is short, you can play it through many times, which makes it good for practice. After checking the notes at a lower playback speed, loop the whole piece with the A-B loop and raise the speed bit by bit. Following the right-hand melody in the hand colours makes the positions of its leaps easier to find. The range fits on a 61-key keyboard. Playing it alongside No. 9, also in E minor, shows clearly how the two differ in density.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
