Description
A bass note on every beat marks out the step of the dance in this small A minor piece, about thirty seconds long, while the right hand mixes eighths, quarters and the odd sixteenth. It is No. 26 from the first part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, published in Sweden in the early nineteenth century. Across its three parts the collection gathers anonymous dance tunes from around the country for keyboard.
Written in A minor, it moves in 3/4. The right-hand melody combines eighths, quarters and sixteenths, with some two-note double stops. The left hand moves mainly in quarter notes, placing a bass note on each beat, with a three-note chord here and there. The range runs from C2 to E5. The bass note on each beat makes the step of the triple-time dance plain.
It is rated beginner, with 169 notes. Because the left hand marks the beat clearly, it is good practice for feeling triple metre. Do not rush the right-hand sixteenths; place them within the same flow as the eighths around them. Start at a slower playback speed, fitting the right hand to the left-hand quarter notes, and use the hand colours to check what each hand is doing. Its compass stays within a 61-key keyboard.
