Description
Some ten notes a second pack this G minor dance, the piece that opens the whole collection: No. 1 of the first part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar (Traditions of Swedish Folk Dances). That anthology, printed in Sweden in the early 19th century, took melodies passed on by ear and wrote them down with a piano accompaniment. Where this particular tune came from is not documented.
It is in G minor and 3/4, lasts about 44 seconds and has 426 notes. The notes are packed in tightly: at around ten per second. A minor-key melody moves over the flow of a triple-time dance. The range spans exactly three octaves, from G2 up to G5, so every note fits on a 61-key keyboard.
It is rated intermediate. Short as it is, the notes are quick, and the task is to keep the fingers moving without losing the feel of triple time. Make the first beat clear and do not let the music stall on the second and third. Put the whole piece in a single A-B loop and raise the playback speed gradually from a slower setting. Checking the accompaniment pattern with the hand colours will also help with No. 2 and the pieces that follow.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
