Description
A thirty-second dance in 3/4 whose left hand places a quarter note on almost every beat, No. 6 makes the weight of triple time easy to hear. It sits in the first of the three parts of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, the early nineteenth-century Swedish collection that put dances from around the country into keyboard form. Who made the individual tunes is not known.
It is in 3/4. The right-hand melody moves mostly in quarter and eighth notes, while the left hand marks the beat almost entirely in quarter notes. With a support placed on every beat, it is easy to hear where the weight of the triple metre falls. The range runs only from A2 to E5, and both hands stay near the middle of the keyboard.
It is rated beginner, with a modest 152 notes. A good start is to slow the playback and follow only the left-hand quarter notes until the pulse is secure, then add the right hand. The hand colours show the two roles clearly, which helps when practising hands separately. Nothing here goes beyond the compass of a 61-key keyboard.
