Description
Two-note double stops thicken the right-hand melody of this bright F major dance, which at around seventy seconds is one of the longer pieces in its book. It is No. 9 in the first part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, a collection printed in Sweden in the early nineteenth century; the dance tunes in it were gathered from across the country and set for keyboard, and their makers go unrecorded.
In F major and 3/4. The right hand moves in eighths and sixteenths, with two-note double stops added here and there to thicken the melody. The left hand keeps up a nearly unbroken line of eighth notes, sometimes adding chords, to form the base of the accompaniment. The range runs from G2 to B-flat 5. The brightness of the major key and the busy motion together give the dance its liveliness.
It is rated intermediate, and with 691 notes in 70 seconds it is fairly dense. The key is to sound the right-hand double stops together while the left-hand eighths stay steady. A double stop sounds ragged unless both fingers land at once, so slow the playback and check them one at a time. Looping the hard spots with the A-B loop makes even this longer piece efficient to work up.
