The rise and fall of the melody, as much as the lilt of the rhythm, shapes this F-major dance, whose writing puts its weight on singing. It is No. 22 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, an intermediate piece of about 73 seconds and 590 notes like No. 21, from a piano collection of Swedish folk dances whose makers' names are lost.
It is in F major and triple meter. The range runs from F2 to B-flat 5, with the tonic F at the bottom. It is close to No. 21 in length and density, but the bass does not go as deep, and the weight of the writing lies in how the melody sings.
The task is not only to manage the notes but to shape the peaks and valleys of each phrase. Listen first at normal speed to take in the line of the melody, then lower the playback speed to check how the right-hand phrases group together. Repeat one phrase at a time with the A-B loop, and use the hand colours to check that the left-hand accompaniment is not getting in the melody's way. All of it lies within 61 keys. Playing it after No. 21, also in a major key, brings out the difference in character between the two.
