Description
This is No. 7 from the first part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, a collection published in the early nineteenth century. It gathers the tunes of dances from the Swedish countryside and arranges them for keyboard, and no composers' names survive. No. 7 is a dance in G minor lasting about thirty-seven seconds.
In G minor and 3/4. A springing rhythm of a dotted eighth followed by a sixteenth recurs in both hands, and there are many moments where the two hands move in the same rhythm. This dotted figure is what gives the dance its step. The range reaches from D2 in the bass to G5 in the right hand. Within the minor-key colour, the dotted rhythm carries the dance step forward.
It is rated intermediate, with 232 notes. The challenge is to keep the dotted rhythm crisp, placing each sixteenth short and exact rather than letting it soften. Where both hands share the rhythm, any misalignment is heard at once. Mark one phrase with the A-B loop and slow the playback to check how the hands line up; following the dotted notation in the score view also helps.
