Its rhythmic patterns keep changing, so this D-major piece in triple time does more than repeat a simple dance figure. It is No. 34, placed late in the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, an intermediate piece of 52 seconds and 468 notes in a collection that dresses Swedish dance tunes for the piano without naming any composer.
It is in D major and triple meter, the major key on the same tonic as the D-minor pieces common in the third part, with the bright sound of two sharps, F and C. Its range is wide, from D2 in the bass to B5, reaching from the low tonic up into the high register. It moves at about nine notes per second.
It is a substantial piece for the intermediate level. Listen first at normal speed to catch the changes in rhythm, then lower the playback speed to check how the notes are placed within each beat. Repeat the rhythmically involved passages with the A-B loop, and use the hand colours to see which hand is carrying the rhythm. Wide as its range is, it fits on a 61-key keyboard. Once it is secure, comparing it with one of the D-minor pieces on the same tonic shows the brightness of the major key.
