Description
The right hand sits high, between G-sharp 4 and A5, well apart from the left-hand chords, so melody and accompaniment sound as two distinct layers in this short A minor dance of about twenty-five seconds. It is No. 29 of the first part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, an early nineteenth-century collection from Sweden whose three parts set anonymous traditional dance tunes for keyboard.
Written in A minor, it moves in 3/4. The right hand moves in quarter notes and dotted eighth plus sixteenth figures, sitting fairly high, between G-sharp 4 and A5. The left hand moves mainly in eighth notes, with two- and three-note chords shaping the accompaniment. The hands lie well apart, so melody and accompaniment are heard as clearly separate layers.
It is rated beginner, with 188 notes in 25 seconds. Short as it is, the left hand has many chords, and fitting them to the right-hand dotted rhythm takes careful practice. Aim for an exact dotted rhythm in the right hand and light chords in the left. Check each hand alone at a slower playback speed, then combine them while watching where the hands sit in the hand colours. A 61-key keyboard covers the whole piece.
