Description
In D minor and triple meter, No. 3 from the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar runs about 65 seconds and holds 448 notes, an intermediate piece. The collection gathers Swedish folk dances in piano settings, and the makers of the tunes are not identified. The third part contains many small dances of varying length and difficulty.
Its range is fairly wide, from F2 in the bass to B-flat 5, with the left hand marking the beat from low in the keyboard and the right hand taking the melody. At about seven notes per second it is a little less crowded than No. 2 of the same part, and the weight of each beat comes through more clearly as a result.
It is a typical intermediate piece, and the result depends on whether the left-hand bass lands firmly on the downbeat. Listen first at normal speed to take in the overall flow, then lower the playback speed to check each hand. Following only the left hand through the hand colours and repeating weak spots with the A-B loop lets you polish it without losing the dance pulse. The whole range can be played on a 61-key keyboard. Finish by checking at normal speed that the weight of the beat stays the same to the end.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
