Description
Only about 37 seconds long and built on one regular triple-time rhythm, No. 5 is among the quickest pieces in the first part to learn. Its home is Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar (Traditions of Swedish Folk Dances), published in Sweden early in the nineteenth century to put orally transmitted dance melodies on paper with piano accompaniment. There is no record of where this tune was collected.
It is in 3/4, lasts about 37 seconds and has 254 notes, a short piece. At around seven notes per second, a regular triple-time rhythm repeats. The range sits in the middle of the keyboard, from C3 up to A5, so every note fits on a 61-key keyboard. No key is recorded in the data.
It is rated intermediate, but being short and narrow in range it is one of the quickest pieces in the first part to learn. Music built on a regular rhythm can easily turn monotonous, so shape the dynamics at the start and end of each phrase to keep the dance alive. Loop the whole piece with the A-B loop, adjust the playback speed, and check how the hands divide the work with the hand colours. Played after Nos. 1 to 4, it rounds off the first part of the collection.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
