Description
At about 66 seconds this G-minor dance runs long for the third part, yet it holds only 326 notes, leaving room between them for a leisurely sound. It is No. 12 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, a collection that writes down traditional Swedish dances for piano with no record of who composed them.
It is in G minor and triple meter, the same key as Nos. 2 and 4. The range runs from D2 to G5, with D, the dominant of G minor, at the bottom. At about five notes per second it is just over half as dense as No. 2 in the same key.
With fewer notes, the length and quality of each one stand out. The important thing is to move on without hurrying while feeling where the beat's weight falls. Lower the playback speed to check how long the notes are held, and use the hand colours to see how long the left-hand bass is sustained. Repeating a single phrase with the A-B loop helps you settle into a steady, unhurried tempo. A 61-key keyboard is enough for it. When finishing it, aim for a steady tempo rather than speed.
