Description
Unusually for the third part, this triple-time dance is written in C minor, a key with several flats. It is No. 11 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, an intermediate piece of about 59 seconds with 414 notes. The collection arranges Swedish folk dances for the piano, and the composers of the individual pieces are not identified.
The range runs from C2 in the bass to A-flat 5, more than three and a half octaves, from the low tonic up to the high A-flat. Its repeated phrases carry small changes each time, so there is variety within a simple dance form. The density is about seven notes per second.
With three flats in the key, the first task in reading it is to keep E-flat, A-flat and B-flat in hand. Check the key signature in the score view, and lower the playback speed so the hands learn where the black keys are. Comparing the repeated phrases with the A-B loop makes it clear what changes between them. Following the bass in the hand colours also helps. The lowest note is C2, so it can be played on a 61-key keyboard.
