Description
An unhurried minor-key dance, in which the right hand decorates its tune with sixteenths and two-note double stops over a slow, steady step. It is No. 15 of the second part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, a three-part Swedish folk dance collection printed in the early nineteenth century, where tunes of unknown authorship are written out for keyboard. It is in D minor and lasts about seventy-four seconds.
Written in D minor, it moves in 3/4. The MIDI is set at a quarter note of 70, a relatively slow setting. The right hand moves mainly in eighth notes, with sixteenths and two-note double stops mixed in. The left hand keeps up eighth notes nearly throughout, supporting the melody from D2. The slow tempo lets the shadow of the minor-key melody come through.
It is rated intermediate, and with 368 notes in 74 seconds its density is moderate for its length. The challenge is to keep the eighth notes flowing at a slow tempo without the beat sagging. Evenly placed left-hand eighths keep the whole piece walking steadily. Listen through a few times at normal speed to absorb the tempo, then use the A-B loop to shape the melody phrase by phrase.
