Description
With 708 notes in 59 seconds, twelve a second, it is one of the busiest pieces in the collection and among the densest in the third part, despite its intermediate rating. It is No. 18 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, in G minor and triple meter. The collection arranges dances handed down in Sweden for the piano, and the composers are not known.
The range runs from G2 in the bass up to D6, reaching much higher than most of the third part. Quick figures follow one another, and the nearly unbroken stream of notes gives the dance a headlong drive. Set beside Nos. 2, 4 and 12, also in G minor, the difference in fine motion is obvious.
Though rated intermediate, it tests quick finger response and an even touch across the fast notes. Start with the playback speed well down and practise in short sections with the A-B loop. Checking in the hand colours which hand takes the quick notes makes it easier to settle on a fingering. Allow a fair amount of practice time to finish it. It needs no more than 61 keys.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
