Description
The left hand of this D minor dance hardly leaves the octave from A2 to A3, while the right hand spins a single, chordless line of sixteenths, dotted figures and eighths. No. 19 lasts just under a minute. It is taken from the first part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, a Swedish collection of the early nineteenth century in three parts; its dance melodies are anonymous and set for keyboard.
The key is D minor and the metre 3/4. The right hand is a single line without chords, mixing sixteenths, dotted figures and eighth notes. The left hand moves mainly in eighth notes within roughly one octave, A2 to A3, keeping its accompaniment in a narrow space. The left hand supports the moving melody in a restrained way.
It is rated intermediate, with 426 notes in 59 seconds. Since the right hand is a single line, the task is to keep the notes even and the phrases unbroken. The left hand barely changes position, so once the fingering is settled it stays secure.
