Description
No difficult technique is needed here: simply following the melody brings out the bounce of this beginner dance in A minor and triple meter. It is No. 17 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, a compact 30 seconds with 142 notes. The collection arranges Swedish folk dances for the piano, and the authors of the tunes are not identified.
The range runs from E3 to B5, one of the narrower ranges in the third part, and the low bass is barely used. Both hands move in the middle and upper registers, so the sound is bright and light. At under five notes per second, it is also light work to read.
Since it can be played without moving the hands much, it is an easy first dance. Lower the playback speed to learn the right-hand melody, and use the hand colours to see where it overlaps with the left hand. With both hands working in a similar register, finding a hand position where the fingers do not collide is part of the practice. Loop the whole piece with the A-B loop and return to normal speed while keeping the lilt of three beats. It needs no more than 61 keys. Lining up the downbeats evenly makes it sound even more like a dance.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
