Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, 2nd part, nr 36

Description

A thirty-second C-major miniature whose left hand barely touches a chord, drawing its accompaniment as a single line of eighth notes. It is No. 36 of the second part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, three volumes of anonymous Swedish dances written out for keyboard in the early nineteenth century.

Its key is C major, in 3/4 time. The right hand combines eighths, sixteenths and quarter notes, rising to B5 with two-note double stops along the way. The left hand is almost entirely single eighth notes without chords, tracing an accompanying line from C2. Because the left hand moves in a plain single line, the roles of the two hands are easy to grasp.

It is rated intermediate, with 227 notes in 30 seconds. With the left hand in single eighth notes, attention can go to moving accurately across its range and keeping the notes even. The right hand tends to stumble where sixteenths and double stops mix, so check those spots at a slower playback speed. Being short, it is easy to loop just the troublesome passages with the A-B loop and compare the hands in the hand colours. Nothing in it goes beyond the 61 keys of a smaller keyboard.

A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
