Description
Nearly every note of this A-minor beginner piece sounds above middle C, and with no deep bass beneath it the plain melody comes through lightly. It is No. 5 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar; at about 37 seconds and 168 notes it is a gentle first step into this anonymous collection of Swedish dances arranged for piano.
It is in A minor and triple meter. Its range is narrow, from A3 to B5. At around 4.5 notes per second it is also one of the calmer pieces in the third part.
Since the range stays within a little over two octaves, you can play it without moving the hands far. Start by lowering the playback speed to learn the order of the melody's notes, and use the hand colours to see what the left hand is doing. As the piece is short, loop the whole thing a few times with the A-B loop, then return to normal speed once the lilt of three beats is in place. Even a 61-key keyboard leaves room to spare. Placing the first beat a little more deeply makes the triple-time character clear even in so short a piece.
