Description
Right-hand sixteenth notes run almost from start to finish in this C major dance, which at about ninety-five seconds is one of the longest pieces in the first part. No. 31 comes from Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, a three-part collection of folk dances published in Sweden in the early nineteenth century, in which traditional tunes by unknown makers are written down in a form playable at the keyboard.
In C major and 3/4. The MIDI is set at a somewhat settled quarter note of 85. Sixteenth notes make up most of the right hand, which reaches up to C6. The left hand supports it mainly in eighth notes, with occasional three-note chords. The busy right hand and the regular left-hand pulse continue for a long stretch.
It is rated intermediate, with 736 notes in 95 seconds. With right-hand sixteenths running through the whole piece, it takes concentration to hold the tempo to the end. Rather than trying to play a long piece through at once, practise it in sections with the A-B loop. Settle the right-hand fingering at a slower playback speed and grasp the overall flow in the score view before moving on to full run-throughs.
