Description
At 37 seconds it is about as long as No. 5, also in A minor and triple meter, but it holds 280 notes, nearly 1.7 times as many, and moves up to intermediate level. It is No. 14 of the third part of Traditioner af Swenska Folk-Dansar, which sets dances handed down in Sweden for the piano; the composers are not known.
The range runs from C2 in the bass to A5; where No. 5 stays mostly in the middle and upper register, this piece reaches far down into the bass. The left hand's support from below gives the sound more body, and the right-hand melody flows smoothly above it.
This piece asks for a smooth melodic line more than for power. Lower the playback speed to check how the right-hand phrases join, and use the hand colours to see how the left hand moves between bass and middle register. Repeating one phrase with the A-B loop evens out the hand-overs between notes. The lowest note is C2, so the full range can be played on a 61-key keyboard. Comparing it with No. 5 in the same key shows how the added bass changes the sound.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
