Description
The twelfth prelude of Book I carries a passionate, dramatic character in F minor. Dense harmonic progressions with chromatic touches build a sense of tension that leads naturally into the following fugue. Though intermediate in difficulty, it hinges on projecting the melodic line clearly over a supportive bass.
Bach's collection of preludes and fugues for keyboard, covering all 24 keys and regarded as the summit of contrapuntal writing.
