Description
The eighth prelude of Book I is a solemn work set in the unusual key of E-flat minor. Its organ-like sonority unfolds slowly in triple time, creating an extended meditative atmosphere. With a longer duration and a moderate note density, this intermediate piece rewards expressive shaping of each individual chord.
Bach's collection of preludes and fugues for keyboard, covering all 24 keys and regarded as the summit of contrapuntal writing.
