Description
Set in the heavily flatted key of E-flat minor, this three-voice fugue develops its deeply sorrowful subject at length, creating a nearly sublime musical atmosphere. At 282 seconds, it is one of the longer fugues in Book I, requiring sustained concentration to carry its unhurried unfolding.
