Description
Written in the rare key of C-sharp major, this three-voice fugue features a light, leaping subject that runs almost without pause. The resulting fingering challenges call for considerable technique. With 1,387 notes crammed into 137 seconds, it is one of the more demanding tests of finger agility in Book I.
Bach's collection of preludes and fugues for keyboard, covering all 24 keys and regarded as the summit of contrapuntal writing.
