This B minor fugue for four voices brings Book I of the Well-Tempered Clavier, twenty-four preludes and fugues, to its close. Its subject, imbued with profound gravity, is built up with great care, giving the whole collection a fittingly weighty conclusion. At 304 seconds and 1,809 notes, it is known as one of the most substantial advanced works in the set.
