Description
A piano arrangement of "Loneliness," the twelfth song of the cycle "Winterreise." A heavy, trudging accompaniment underlies a melody tinged with the despair and resignation of a solitary traveler, preserving the shadowy mood of the original. Though it runs only about a minute and a half, its roughly 774 notes call for real concentration to draw out its dark, sunken emotion; an intermediate-level piece, keeping the trudging tempo steady without over-rubato is what gives the performance its conviction.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.

About the Composer
Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
Franz Schubert was a Vienna-born composer who died at only 31 but left behind a vast body of work, especially in the field of Lieder. Known for his gift for melody and subtle modulation, songs such as "Erlkonig" remain widely performed today. His piano works, including the Impromptus, are equally rich in lyricism. This site includes 120 of his works, such as Impromptus, "Erlkonig," and the "Hungarian Melody."
