This very brief dance, titled "Cotillon," likely dates from around 1818. The cotillon was a lively social dance of French origin, and the piece carries a correspondingly brisk rhythm. Lasting under a minute, its dense writing packs in quick fingerwork despite the short duration.

Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
