Description
This Allegretto in C minor was written in 1827, near the end of Schubert's life, and is often performed as a standalone character piece. A quietly melancholic melody in the minor mode recurs throughout, and though the piece runs nearly six minutes, its relatively modest note count places the emphasis on restrained expression and careful pacing rather than technical display.
