Description
This suite in two parts, Airs a faire fuir and Danses de travers, was deliberately named by Satie to suggest a cool, detached emotional quality. Written in 1897, close to the Gymnopedies and Gnossiennes, it repeats plain melodic lines while subtly shifting harmonic color from piece to piece. Taken as a whole it runs long and dense, requiring stamina and the ability to distinguish each movement's individual character.

Erik Satie (1866-1925)
Erik Satie was a French composer from Honfleur who worked in Montmartre's cabarets while pursuing a highly individual musical aesthetic. Known for spare, understated music and whimsically titled works, he later influenced minimalist and ambient music.
