Written around the turn of the 20th century, this waltz-like piece began as a chanson for the singer Paulette Darty and retains the warm, catchy charm of Parisian cafe-concert music. Its harmonies are simple but the melodic line is richly ornamented, calling for a light touch and singing phrasing throughout. It remains one of Satie's most immediately appealing and approachable pieces.

Erik Satie (1866-1925)
Erik Satie was a French composer from Honfleur who worked in Montmartre's cabarets while pursuing a highly individual musical aesthetic. Known for spare, understated music and whimsically titled works, he later influenced minimalist and ambient music.
