Description
Composed while Satie was revisiting counterpoint and composition theory at the Schola Cantorum, this passacaglia builds a set of variations over a repeating theme, giving it a more structured, weighty character than his earlier miniatures. Its interweaving voices require careful independent control of each line. This makes it a demanding piece compared to the simpler harmonic writing found elsewhere in his output.

Erik Satie (1866-1925)
Erik Satie was a French composer from Honfleur who worked in Montmartre's cabarets while pursuing a highly individual musical aesthetic.
