This is the first of the Gymnopédies, the work that made Satie's name widely known. A simple melody floats over a slow triple-meter accompaniment, colored by distinctive harmonic progressions that create a serene, meditative world. Historically regarded as a forerunner of modern harmony, it has few notes and is approachable for those new to Satie.

Erik Satie (1866-1925)
Erik Satie was a French composer from Honfleur who worked in Montmartre's cabarets while pursuing a highly individual musical aesthetic. Known for spare, understated music and whimsically titled works, he later influenced minimalist and ambient music.
