Description
The second movement of the Appassionata is written in variation form, with a quiet theme becoming progressively more elaborate and note-dense with each variation. Placed between the sonata's two turbulent outer movements, it creates a reflective, calmer interlude that demands restraint and close attention to the theme's gradual transformation across its roughly three-and-a-half-minute span.
