Description
Bach's Partita No.2 in C minor, written in 1727, is distinguished by its dramatic opening Sinfonia, which moves from a stately introduction into a fast fugato section that draws the listener in from the outset. The closing Capriccio maintains constant energetic motion, and the suite as a whole sustains a dramatic character throughout. At 1,142 seconds and 8,930 notes, it demands the stamina and focus of an advanced player.
Suite-form works from the Baroque era; Bach's Partitas, a sequence of varied dances, are ranked among the greatest keyboard works.
