Description
The second movement of Partita No.3 in A minor. Unusually, this suite opens with a Fantasia rather than the customary Praeludium, and the Allemande that follows carries the same flowing melodic quality found in the corresponding movements of the other partitas. Shaping its long phrases with natural breathing is key to an expressive performance.
Suite-form works from the Baroque era; Bach's Partitas, a sequence of varied dances, are ranked among the greatest keyboard works.
