Description
The opening movement of Partita No.3. Distinctively, Bach chose a freely structured Fantasia here rather than the customary Praeludium. Unbound by strict form, it has an improvisatory character that gives the suite an unusually atmospheric beginning.
Suite-form works from the Baroque era; Bach's Partitas, a sequence of varied dances, are ranked among the greatest keyboard works.
