Description
The opening movement of Partita No.5. Titled Praeambulum, meaning "prelude," it consists of an unbroken stream of brilliant figuration. Packing 1,407 notes into 143 seconds, it is a densely written movement requiring the technique to sustain fast, evenly articulated passagework throughout.
Suite-form works from the Baroque era; Bach's Partitas, a sequence of varied dances, are ranked among the greatest keyboard works.
