Description
The opening piece of Schumann's Album for the Young, written for his own children. A simple, singing melody is supported by carefully voiced harmony, giving it a gentle Romantic character. Running about a minute and a half with only around 303 notes, it favors space over density. Approachable for beginners, its sparse note count makes it especially well suited to developing a sense of lyrical, singing phrasing.
A collection of 43 piano pieces Schumann gave to his daughter Marie for her seventh birthday — musically rich works enjoyable for children and adults alike.
