Description
This is "Knecht Ruprecht," the twelfth piece from Schumann's 1848 collection Album for the Young, Op.68, depicting a traditional German Christmas figure who accompanies St. Nicholas. Heavy chords and dotted rhythms portray a powerful, stately gait. At 107 seconds, it contains 1,378 notes, by far the densest texture in the set, requiring intermediate-level control of chordal touch and stamina.
A collection of 43 piano pieces Schumann gave to his daughter Marie for her seventh birthday — musically rich works enjoyable for children and adults alike.
