Description
This is one of the few Mozart piano sonatas written in a minor key, and it carries the tension and dramatic character typical of C minor throughout. Among a body of sonatas dominated by major keys, this work stands out with its striking harmonic depth. At around nine minutes and over four thousand notes, it demands expressive contrast between light and shadow, along with the steady technique to sustain its tense passages.
Piano sonatas representative of the Classical and Romantic eras, including Beethoven's early works — substantial multi-movement pieces throughout.
