Composed as Mozart was approaching full maturity, this sonata blends the elegant melodic charm of B-flat major with brilliant, almost concerto-like piano writing. Its finale has an operatic, buoyant energy that has made this one of the more popular sonatas in the set. Relatively compact at around six minutes, it still packs in over three thousand notes, calling for both light, precise ornamentation and a singing melodic line.
