Description
This is the last piano sonata Mozart completed in his lifetime, and its opening theme, with fanfare-like calls reminiscent of a trumpet, has given it a lasting nickname. Contrapuntal writing appears throughout, condensing the composer's mature craftsmanship into a compact form. Lasting about eighteen minutes with nearly nine thousand notes, it requires both the technique to project its bright themes clearly and the ear to bring out its countermelodies.
