Description
A slow, introspective movement placed at the heart of French Suite No. 5. The Sarabande, a triple-meter dance of Spanish origin with emphasis on the second beat, is traditionally the most lyrical and reflective movement in a Baroque suite. Its melody calls for a singing tone and sensitivity to the shifting harmonies beneath it.
