Description
This is the third of Bach's six French Suites, made up of a graceful sequence of Baroque dances: Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gavotte, Menuet, and Gigue. The key of B minor lends the whole a subdued lyricism, and part of the pleasure lies in distinguishing the character of each dance. Intermediate in level with a fairly dense texture, it calls for shifting rhythmic feel between dances along with careful voice-leading.
