La Traviata - Preludio

Giuseppe Verdi

DifficultyIntermediate
Duration3:14

Description

This is the prelude to Verdi's 1853 opera La Traviata. It opens with delicate string-like sonorities that seem to foreshadow the ailing heroine Violetta, setting the melancholic tone that pervades the whole opera across its 194 seconds. Though rated intermediate, it depends heavily on dynamic shading and requires expressive control to sustain its quiet tension.

A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.
