Description
This variation set is based on the aria 'Une fièvre brûlante' from Grétry's opera Richard Cœur-de-Lion. Dating from around 1795, it reworks a French operatic melody in a Viennese keyboard idiom, illustrating one of the styles the young Beethoven was particularly drawn to in his early years.
Works written in theme-and-variations form, where a single melody is transformed in many different ways.
