Description
With the two hands moving almost the same number of notes, the writing is evenly balanced: broken chords climb through chord tones, F, B-flat, D, in the right hand, over a left hand that takes chord tones in turn, B-flat, D, F (B-flat major, 2/4). In the MIDI data the last 24 of its 48 bars turn to E-flat major, in which it ends. It lasts about 47 seconds, with 496 notes.
Just as No. 2 of Op. 840 moved from F major to B-flat major, this piece moves from one major key to the major key with one more flat. In a collection by Czerny that changes key step by step, the keynote here shifts to B-flat.

About the Composer
Carl Czerny (1791-1857)
Carl Czerny was a Viennese pianist and composer who studied under Beethoven and later taught Franz Liszt. He is best known for his enormous output of piano etudes, which remain widely used in piano pedagogy around the world today. This site includes selections from the 160 Eight-Measure Exercises, Op. 821, and the 50 Progressive Studies in All Keys, Op. 840.
